Robyn Briggs along with her family have owned and operated Prior Street Child Care & Development since 2007.  Prior to this, they designed and built  Tarragindi Child Care & Development (1993) and established  Carina Heights Child Care & Development (1999).

Robyn is a qualified teacher holding a Diploma of Education. She identified back in 1993 when opening her first centre the community’s need for high quality care and education in a long day care setting. Since then Robyn has been employing professional, qualified staff including teachers to implement the learning programs.

Robyn is very hands on in the operation of the centre, readily available to support the staff and families.  She carefully selects staff who will uphold her philosophy about dedication to quality care and education in a well maintained and resourced, safe and hygienic environment.

Operations Manager

Angela first commenced working at Tarragindi Child Care & Development in 1995 as the kindergarten teacher. She moved to  Carina Heights Child Care & Development in 1999 taking on the role as centre Director through until 2008, before moving to the role of Operations Manager for the three associated centres.

She holds a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education) and a Bachelor of Education; is a Registered Teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers, as well as holding a Food Safety Supervisor qualification. Angela also holds a Certified Supervisor Certificate.

Angela’s role sees her visiting each of our three centres across the week to support management and staff  in the HUGE task of operating a long day child care and development centre.

Human Resources Manager

Louise played a vital role in setting up and establishing Prior Street Child Care and Development, working hard to meet the opening date in January of 2007. She originally commenced work as the preschool teacher at our Tarragindi centre in 2000. December 2015 saw Louise stepping into her new role as Human Resources Manager.

Louise is a registered teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers, holds a Bachelor of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education Studies.  She has diverse education experience working in  the Early Childhood sector as well as primary schools in Australia and the UK.

Louise’s role will see her visit the three associated centres across her week. Her role is to support management and staff to maintain quality care and education.

Nominated Supervisor

Liz has completed an Advanced Diploma in Children’s Services and is currently studying a Bachelor of Education, has worked in various roles (from Assistant to Director) in early childhood education since 2003. She joined Prior Street Child Care & Development in 2009. She values working in child care and is committed to caring for and educating children in a creative, safe, welcoming and engaging environment.  Liz recognises and values the importance of relationships with children by fostering respect, individual growth and development; all the while striving to ensure this is reflected in all aspects of our services to children and their families.

Educational Leader

Vanessa, who is a registered teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers is the Educational Leader and Kindergarten Teacher of Prior Street Child Care & Development.  She joined the centre in 2010 first working with the 3 – 4 year olds before moving in 2012 to the Kindergarten room. Vanessa graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor in Creative Industries (Drama) from QUT.  Following work at the Queensland Performing Arts Complex and with a law firm, she returned to study in 2009 when she went on to completed a Graduate Diploma in Education (Early Childhood).

Vanessa believes in the value of play and loves learning along with her children in the Emu Room. She loves their questions; how they see things; how they interact with each other; the different ways they learn; and their eagerness to explore and discover. As their teacher, she aims to support each child, whatever their needs are each week/day/moment, encouraging their passion for asking questions, learning new things, and approaching challenges with enthusiasm and confidence.

Vanessa’s work was instrumental in the centre being endorsed by Nature Play Queensland as a Bush Kindy.

Joey's Room

 
Suzi  who holds a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, has extensive experience working across all groups in a variety of early childhood settings. Suzi has been a part of the Prior Street team since the centre’s opening. Prior to this she’d worked as the Preschool teacher at our Carina Heights Centre from 1999. Suzi believes that establishing trusting and caring relationships with the children and their families while providing a play based program in the Preschool Room enabled children to develop confident self-identities making the transition to school a positive experience. In her usual support role at Prior Street, Suzi loves having the opportunity to work across all the age groups in the relief teacher position – being a part of the children’s journey through their very important early years of learning.  Importantly, her role working throughout the centre provides continuity of care for children; engaging in meaningful interactions with them as she support children to make decisions and to see themselves as successful learners.
Kelly who joined Prior Street Child Care and Development in July 2018,  has worked in child care for over 20 years.  She holds a Diploma of Children’s Services and a Diploma in Community Services.  Kelly has proven skills in understanding child development, positive guidance and working in partnerships with families to get the best possible development outcomes for each child in her care. She is passionate about making connections with each child and their families and providing an environment that promotes discovery, learning and exploration.
Cindy joined Prior Street in 2008, this was 12 months after her early childhood career began. She has worked as the assistant educator in the nursery since her commencement. She loves working in the babies room and likes to make all the parents and children feel welcome at the centre. She believes each child is unique and respects this individuality. Further, she believes all children deserve trust, respect, love, attention and care; and that they should feel happy and safe in the child care environment. Cindy came to live in Australia from Singapore in 1988. She is Mum to a teenage daughter and son.

Possum's Room

 
Jane is the lead educator in the possums’ room.  She holds a Diploma in Child Care & Education and has an ongoing commitment to professional development.  Having worked in early childhood since 1996 Jane commenced working at Prior Street in 2012.  She has experience working across all ages from birth to 5 years. Jane believes that children need a secure, respectful and nurturing environment.  In the possums’ room Jane seeks to develop a sense of belonging for each family – establishing a ‘home away from home’ where children’s individual needs are provided for. Jane is a mother to five adult children and has three grandchildren; she places a high value on the importance of family life and the formative years.
Rebecca (Bec) has been working in the role of assistant educator since the centre’s opening in 2007. She holds a Certificate 3 in Children’s Services. Becs’ fun and energetic personality helps to create a positive atmosphere in the Wombat room as she supports and engages children through their play. She believes children need a fun and stimulating environment which supports their independence as they grow and learn during these very important early years. She also feels that developing trusting and respectful relationships with the children’s families ensures continuity of care between home and the centre – enabling her to help provide a program that promotes and supports the interests and needs of each individual child.

MaTe joined the Prior Street Child Care and Development team in 2016.  MaTe enjoys working with the toddler group, supporting them as they discover, create and explore their sense of being – she is the assistant educator in the Possum room each Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

Since moving from Venezuela in 2016, MaTe has studied hard and now holds a Diploma in Children’s Services.   On Thursdays and Fridays you‘ll find MaTe cooking up delicious, nutritious meals in our kitchen.

In her spare time she enjoys hiking, mountain biking, traveling, cooking and outings with friends.

Koala's Room

 
Rosie feels it is a pleasure to have worked at Prior Street since its opening in 2007. Since 2003 Rosie, who holds a Certificate 3 in Child Care, has worked across Australia with children of all ages.  She enjoys helping each and every child develop and grow into successful confident, happy young individuals – which makes her very proud to be a part of their lives and to foster life long learning skills.  Rosie looks forward to caring for and educating your child.
Tayla has a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care and has been employed at Prior Street since January 2017.  Tayla has worked in Child Care since 2012 with different age groups – but especially enjoys working with the 2 to 3 year old’s.  She is always on the lookout for opportunities to extend children’s learning experiences based on their interests  – then plans fun and exciting activities to scaffold  learning.
Tayla enjoys reading books in her spare time and loves to share her enthusiasm for books and reading with the children in her care.  On the weekend Tayla likes to spend time with her family and friends.
Celine was born in France and after extensive international travel has immigrated to Australia to build a life with her partner and has since had a son. Celine, who is fluent in both French and English, holds a Certificate in Children’s Services and  a Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. She continues to explore professional development opportunities to support her role as an educator. As lead educator in the koala room, Celine nurtures the children’s self-identity by providing engaging and creative pedagogy in an emotionally supportive environment.

Wombat's Room

 
Hannah commenced at Prior Street doing relief work in 2012, she is now the lead educator in the Wombats. Hannah has a Diploma in Children’s Services and is currently studying a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education – upgrading her skills to further develop and improve everyday practises. Hannah believes in creating a program that supports and encourages all children’s learning and development. She loves spending any downtime at the beach, travelling and with family.
Sara has worked at Prior Street since 2014, she is presently studying a Diploma in Children’s  Services. She enjoys working in the Koala room, guiding and helping children as they experience play-based learning that is engaging and builds success for life.  As many Colombians do, Sara grew up surrounded by children, and believes that the community as a whole plays an important role in children’s early years.
Melinda is working with the Wombat group while Hannah is on parental leave.  Previously she worked as a Nanny for 5 years before entering the childcare industry in 2006.  She joined the Prior Street team in 2016.  Melinda holds a Diploma of Children’s Services and has worked with all ages. Melinda believes in the importance of sustainability in particularly re purposing items and recycling. She has an Italian heritage and has travelled overseas to explore the birthplace and culture of her family, along with spending time in Bali and the United Kingdom. Growing up within such a large family she believes in the importance of sharing cultural diversity and building a community within the centre.

Emu's Room & Approved Kindergarten Program

Kimberley (Kim) first came to the attention of Prior Street Child Care & Development during her Certificate 3 in Children’s Services ‘prac’ in 2012. Keen to keep her involved with the centre, she initially did relief work before a fulltime position became available mid 2013. Kim encourages children to develop confidence and independence through providing an environment that is comfortable, fun and supportive; this also meets children’s growing and changing needs.  Prior to her child care career, Kim completed a Diploma of Nursing.  She is an active participant in ongoing professional development to further develop her skills and understanding.
Bonnie joined Prior Street Child Care and Development in 2018.  Prior to her career in childcare she completed a Bachelor of Primary Education and worked as a Year 1 teacher for 2 years. She is currently studying a bridging diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care as she is wanting to further develop her skills and work with younger children. Bonnie has always loved working with children, watching them explore and grow – her favourite part of working with children is watching them explore, question, play and develop their own sense of identity.  In her spare time Bonnie enjoys taking on creative projects and exploring the outdoors.
Wendy joined  Prior Street Child Care and Development in 2016.  She works both at our centre and at our Tarragindi centre using her extensive early childhood knowledge and teaching experience to support and implement the Kindergarten program.  Wendy holds a Bachelor of Arts (Communication Studies) and a Graduate Diploma of Education (Early Childhood); she is passionate about contributing to the intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of young children.

Support Staff

 

Accounts & Administration

Kerry has worked as an Office Administrator for this and our other two centres since 2000. In 2007, she was instrumental in the setting up of Prior Street. Kerry offers support to the Directors and Educators;  and works very closely with the Licensee to administer and monitor the financial system in order to ensure that the municipal finances are maintained in an accurate and timely manner. Kerry is a  Justice Of The Peace and is always happy to assist with documents being witnessed.

Kendall has worked in childcare since 2004 and joined Prior Street Child Care and Development in 2007 not long after the centre opened.  She has travelled overseas to Europe and Asia and has experienced many different cultures. Kendall loves taking photographs not only of her own children but of the children in care – capturing the moods, environments and play.

​Kendall has her Diploma in Children’s Services and is keen to extend her knowledge with ongoing professional development sessions. Kendall believes that providing children with a safe secure and enjoyable environment, rich with a variety of experiences and resources, will allow children to develop and grow confidently. She  feels that children are individuals who grow and learn at different rates and each and every child’s needs and interests should be met on a daily basis.  Kendall believes that by working as a team, valuing and respecting each other’s opinions and providing a happy, nurturing and safe environment this will provide high quality care for all children.

Vivian joined our centre in December 2015. Vivian graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong with  a Bachelor in Arts with Honors and post graduate diploma of education.  She taught Chinese literature in high school from 1994 to 2006 in Hong Kong.  After moving to Brisbane with her family, she completed a Certificate III and  Diploma in Education (Early Childhood) . She has worked in child care since 2009.  Vivian believes the children are entitled to a child care environment which is safe, healthy, happy and supports their development.  Vivian believes all children are unique individuals with differing personalities, needs, wants, interests and levels of development and they learn in different ways and at different rates.  Vivian likes to facilitate children’s learning by integrating individual needs into their daily programme.  She respects the special relationship between children and their families and incorporates this perspective in all her interactions with children.
Vivian and her husband Samson have two boys, who are studying at Brisbane Christian College. Vivian enjoys reading and bush walking at her leisure time.

Anita joined the Prior Street team in 2014.  She holds a Certificate 3 in Children’s Services and is studying a Diploma in Children’s Services. Anita, who comes from Hong Kong, speaks English, Cantonese and Mandarin.  She believes that each child has the potential to bring something unique and special to the world.  It is her desire as an educator to help children to develop their potential by believing in them as capable individuals.  Anita likes to assist children to discover who they are so they can express their own opinions and nurture their own ideas. You’ll see Anita enthusiastically engaging with children across all ages groups within the centre.

Kitchen

Kathy joined the Prior Street team in 2017.  She qualified as a Chef and Pastry Chef in 2010.  She has always been passionate about cooking and has a special interest in food from different cultures. Cathy has worked in various restaurants, cooking a variety of cuisines, desserts and pastries.   Kathy enjoys cooking fresh and delicious food for the children including lots of fresh fruit and vegetables.  Kathy works Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays.

MaTe Each Thursday and Friday, you will find Mate working in our kitchen as the Food Safety Supervisor.  She has completed a Food Safety Supervisor’s course and is passionate about using fresh produce and ingredients when creating exciting, nutritious meals.

MaTe joined the Prior Street Child Care and Development team in 2016, and when she’s not in the kitchen, you’ll find her enjoying her days as the assistant educator in the Possum room.
